Ex-student, Carrie Mancini, signs for West Ham Ladies

cmanciniAfter completing her GCSEs at Walton High in June last year, Carrie Mancini was offered a place at the EDSV Football Academy at Oaklands College in St Albans.

Carrie is a residential student at the college Monday to Friday and comes home to Milton Keynes at weekends where she has continued to play for Woburn & Wavendon Ladies. As captain, Carrie has led the team to top of the league, unbeaten so far this season.

She has trained hard with the Academy, alongside studying for a Level 3 National Diploma in Sports Development Coaching and Fitness.

Carrie and her EDSV team mates have just been crowned League Champions of the Category 1 College League.

It is now time for Carrie to move onwards and upwards; she has been offered a place with West Ham Ladies, where she is training twice a week and played her debut match on Sunday 19 March 2017.

Carrie will continue with EDSV and her studies at Oaklands College next year with her ultimate aim of becoming a professional footballer in the UK or in the USA.

Well done Carrie; we are following your career with interest.

Performing Arts Success

Screen Shot 2017 03 20 at 22.53.03There have been many successes over the past few weeks in Music and Performing Arts across MKET.

We have had many students participate in a number of performance categories at the Milton Keynes Festival of Music, Dance and Drama and we were thrilled when a number of our Oliver cast performed ‘Consider Yourself’ and successfully won the Gold Award for Large Musical Theatre Ensemble.   We also celebrated our Year 9 students performing their version of ‘Revoltin’ Children’ from the musical ‘Matilda’ and then winning second place and a silver medal.  The adjudicator praised the students for maintaining Walton High's enviable reputation in the Performing Arts and commented on the obvious value that being part of a performing arts ensemble added to a young person’s experiences.

Hot and Not Bothered

hotnotbothered

A group of Year 11 students recently took part in an initiative during their PE lessons, which was set up through a group called “Hot and Not Bothered”, who are funded by Sport England.

The students had to complete six weeks of activity with an outside instructor. The activities varied form Yoga to Insanity Workouts designed to encourage young girls to be more active and show them a variety of different ways in which they could do this. If students were able to complete five out of six sessions with a positive attitude, they received a FITBIT and a “Hot and Not Bothered!” t-shirt to encourage them to stay active in the future.

As the photo shows, fun was had by all.
