Performing Arts Success

There have been many successes over the past few weeks in Music and Performing Arts across MKET.

We have had many students participate in a number of performance categories at the Milton Keynes Festival of Music, Dance and Drama and we were thrilled when a number of our Oliver cast performed ‘Consider Yourself’ and successfully won the Gold Award for Large Musical Theatre Ensemble.   We also celebrated our Year 9 students performing their version of ‘Revoltin’ Children’ from the musical ‘Matilda’ and then winning second place and a silver medal.  The adjudicator praised the students for maintaining Walton High's enviable reputation in the Performing Arts and commented on the obvious value that being part of a performing arts ensemble added to a young person’s experiences.

Walton High’s Orchestra achieved a Silver Award for their performance of Habenera and Toreador from Bizet’s opera, Carmen. The Walton High Jazz band entered the open competition for Small Ensemble and won Gold and first place performing an arrangement of the theme from The Godfather, Brecon Beacon and Nightrun. The band was congratulated by the adjudicator for performing important repertoire with style.

Many students from across MKET and the Yamaha Music School have been involved with music exams from Initial Keyboard entries right up to Grade 8 piano. All students achieved either a distinction or merit in their recent exams.

Isla Rogers and Gabriellius Slavatis both achieved distinction for their Grade 8 piano performances. Other notable young musicians include Simona Dubs who achieved a mark of 94 % in her Grade 2 Piano exam and Edith Grindley who also achieved 94%, this time for her  Grade 1 Keyboard exam.

We are very proud of all our students and the support they receive from their families which enables them to take part  in the array of enrichment opportunities open to them.
