During February half term 5 brave members of staff accompanied an enthusiastic crew of key stage 4 French and History students across the channel for 5 days of cultural and historic experiences. We were lucky enough to sample large amounts of pastries from the ‘Boulangerie’, delicious French and Belgian chocolates, waffles, crêpes, lots of cheese and even snails! History highlights included visits to the Tyne Cot and Langemark cemeteries, the Menin Gate War Memorial in Ypres and a memorable walk through a preserved First World War trench which gave students a realistic insight into the conditions faced by soldiers. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all and as teachers we were really impressed with the behaviour of the students particularly their eagerness to use French and the mature and compassionate manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the entire trip.

webA variety of projects are being undertaken by Post 16 students, as part of the new Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at Walton High. The course is offered to all Post 16 students and allows them to investigate, create or produce a research report, artefact or production of their choosing. Students are currently researching topics ranging from controversial issues such as stem cell research and people’s perception of mental illness, to creating a product that better meets consumer needs in the current market place.
