MK Secondary Schools Parliamentary Debate Competition

On Tuesday 18th October Walton High participated in the first round of the MK Secondary Schools Parliamentary Debate Competition, hosted by the city’s MPs- Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart. The round took place at MK College and Walton High were represented by Leandra Berrimah and Finley Hooper, both in Year 13.

 

The motion Walton High competed in was:

This Government would like to move the motion to reduce car usage in the United Kingdom by encouraging the use of alternative methods of transport.

For the motion (encourage people to take the train) – Lord Grey Academy

For the motion (encourage people to take the bus) – Walton High

For the motion (encourage people to walk, cycle or e-scooter) – Shenley Brook End School

 

After a competitive and highly emotive debate, Walton High were declared the victors of the round.

 

The semi-final takes place on Tuesday 15th November at the Walton High Brooklands Campus from 4.15pm. The motion is:

This Government would like to move the motion to reconsider which voting system it should use in future Parliamentary elections.

In favour of the First Past The Post system – Hazeley Academy

In favour of the Alternative Voting system – Kents Hill Park
