U13 Girls 6 a-side Football WIN

Just before Christmas, we were able to report on the success of Miss Mather and her U13 Girls 6 a-side Football team when they won the Local Finals of the EFL Cup held in Milton Keynes. This was to select a local school team to represent the MK Dons at Area Finals to be held in Colchester.

Well, we are extremely delighted and proud to be able to say that the girls have gone one better and won that Tournament too. This is a huge achievement, to say the very least. They were up against teams representing Northampton Town, Ipswich Town, Colchester United, Luton Town, Stevenage, and Peterborough United. Apart from drawing their first game against Northampton Town, they won every match. In the semi-final, they played Ipswich Town and beat them with a convincing 3-0 win.

In the Final, they had to play Luton Town, who they had already beaten once. Mylee scored the only goal to secure the Tournament win. The reward for that is massive. Incredibly, they have now qualified for the National Finals to be held at Wembley. Amazing! What an experience that will be. Not many people can say that they’ve played at Wembley, but Mylee, Erin, Danielle, Asia, Rachel, Amy, Hanin and Toni will be able to say just that! It will be a very special day indeed for them and Miss Mather, who cannot sing their praises enough. “I am so, so proud of the girls and what they have achieved so far. They played impeccably and worked solidly together throughout the tournament. They have done Walton High proud and we are so excited about the next phase. WEMBLEY – HERE WE COME”! She gave Erin the Manager’s Player award. Erin scored 7 goals at Colchester. The girls themselves voted for Hanin as their Players’ Player. It must be noted too that Asia also kept 5 clean sheets in goal to cap a truly great day.

The team are pictured proudly wearing the MK Dons kit that they were allowed to keep.

We will update everyone as soon as we know when a date had been set for Wembley. COME ON GIRLS!
