Walton High celebrates their Post 16 students’ success

Etan Wong and Pavan Sidhu

We have many reasons to celebrate the class of 2024. These students brought an energy and vigour to Post 16 at Walton High that helped shape the school in the unique way that each cohort does. The majority of this group joined us as Year 7s in 2017 and have seen huge changes to our school, our community and the world beyond. Their last year with us has seen significant changes as Walton High looks towards our future joining the 5 Dimensions Trust and reflects on our 25 year history and the values that define us. Our graduating year 13 students are thriving examples that at its core Walton High is a place for learning, contribution and growth.

This exceptional group of young people have made their mark in many ways. They were the first students to opt to study our new A levels and vocational courses in Accounting, Ancient History, Children’s Play, Learning and Development, Environmental Science and Financial Studies. This demonstrates their pioneering spirit in embracing new endeavours with confidence. This group also helped to grow enrichment at Post 16 with a particular focus on giving back to the community by leading on different initiatives including the Charity Champions in support of Willen Hospice. Finally, they have shown how ambitious and future-facing they are by becoming involved with a number of careers focused initiatives including pop up events, employer talks and work experience opportunities with companies such as Network Rail, Mercedes and FCDO Services.

We are delighted that, yet again, our students’ A level results will enable them to attend some of the country’s most prestigious universities to study a range of highly sought after courses.  Edith’s A* A* A* grades will see her attend the University of Birmingham to read Medicine; also pursuing Medicine, but at the University of East Anglia is Nyanzobe (A A B).  Milan’s A* A* A grades will take him to the University of Sheffield to study Aerospace Engineering.  Hosana (A* A* A) is off to join the University College London to read Psychology.  Aria’s A* A A grades will see him reading Artificial Intelligence at Kings College London.  Lucy (A* A A) will be joining the University of York to pursue English Litrerature.  Sachin’s A A A B grades will take him to the University of Manchester to read Mathematics.  Josh’s A* A Dist* will see him going to the University of Nottingham to read Business Management; joining him there will be Kofi (A A B) studying Finance.

Students who pursued an Applied General or Technical pathway are equally celebrating their success and with Ali’s Dist* Dist* Dist* taking him to the University of Liverpool to study Cosmetic Science.  Ava’s Dist* Dist* Dist* will see her study Adult Nursing at the University of York. Georgi (Dist* Dist* Dist*) will be attending Plymouth University to read Physiotherapy.  Aimee’s Dist* Dist Dist will take her to the University of South Wales, working alongside the MK Dons, to pursue Football Coaching. Amber (Dist* Dist Dist) will apply her skills to Child Behaviour and Early Learning at the University of Winchester. Lastly, Mohammed’s Dist* Dist Dist will allow him to follow a career in Dental Hygiene and Therapy.

A number of our students have secured highly reputable apprenticeships with major local employers. Pavan (A* A* A* A*) will undertake a degree apprenticeship in Data Analytics at Amazon. Etan (A A A) will also be entering the field of Data Analytics, but at BMW. Finally, Annie’s A* A* A grades will take her to RSM Accounts and Business to train become a chartered accountant.

Many of our students have also shown extraordinary work ethics, resilience and commitment to their personal development. They, and their families, should rightly be proud of their accomplishments. James is undertaking Physics at York University. Eve will explore her passion for Animal Wellbeing at Moulton College. Isaac will continue his Health and Social Care career at Nottingham University. Chloe will move on to Anglia Ruskin University to read Psychology and Kai will study Accounting at the University of East London after his well-deserved gap year.

The incredible achievements of our young people, both within and outside of the curriculum, are in huge part down to their experiences in our local primary schools. As well as now being alumni of Walton High, these students are also alumni of Heronsgate School, Wavendon Gate School, Broughton Fields Primary School, St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School and St Mary’s Wavendon C of E Primary to name a few.

We are keenly aware, as with any intensely competitive environment, some students may be disappointed with their grades and require support from our Post 16 team. We are here to offer any information, advice or guidance that will help students moving forward with their next steps. Please contact Dr Harding or Mr Kendall via feedback@mket.org.uk if you need assistance.

We are confident that all our students have very bright and exciting futures ahead; we are very proud of their growth, talents and unlimited potential. We know they will have a significant impact in their respective fields as well as contributing positively to the wider community. We cannot wait to hear about their many adventures beyond Walton High and look forward to welcoming them back to share their experiences.
