Year 7 Transition Walnut Tree

 

We are excited to welcome you to Walton High as you begin your secondary school journey in September 2026. Starting Year 7 is a big step, and we are committed to making sure you feel supported, inspired, and ready to succeed from your very first day.

At Walton High, we want you to do well in your lessons and grow as a confident, curious, and creative young person. You will be able to explore a wide range of subjects, take part in exciting clubs and activities, and challenge yourself in new and enjoyable ways. There are also lots of opportunities for enrichment, leadership, and personal development to help you discover your strengths and interests.

We know that moving to a new school can feel exciting, and sometimes a little nerve‑wracking, but you won’t be doing it alone. Our staff and student support teams are here to guide you, answer your questions, and help you settle in quickly.

Event Calendar.

See the event calendar below for the exciting events being planned to welcome all new students to Walton High.

If there is only a month on the calendar we are still just confirming the date and will update it as soon as we have the date. If the event is applicable to you and your child you will receive an event invite through the Applicaa system for you to confirm attendance.

Online Safety Event

23rd March

Event for parents to go through online safety for your children.

Welcome to Walnut Tree

26th March

Come and find out about our expectations and exciting opportunities, as well as speak with our teachers and students.  

Q&A with the transition lead

23rd April

A chance to book a 10 min slot with the transitional lead to ask any questions

 

Visits to Primary Schools

May/June

Walton High staff will either visit or call each Primary school to talk about your child and answer any questions prior to Transition Day.

Self-Regulation Day

19th June

This will be a lovely opportunity for children who next extra support to get to know the layout of the school in a small group and work with the Pastoral lead and Assistant Principal in advance of Transition Day. Pupils will be identified through primary schools

Supportive Transition

23rd June

Students with identified SEND needs will be invited to attend the school during the day and meet our SEND team.

In addition, our pastoral team will work with families, identified through their work with primary schools, to provide an additional transition experience. This will support those students who may find transition particularly challenging.

Music Transition Day

25th June

This special day is designed for Year 6 students who will be joining us in Year 7 this September and who already play a musical instrument.

Transition Day

2nd July

Students will attend Walton High for the school day. Students will arrive from 8.45am for a 9am start and finish the day at 3.20pm

Meet the Tutor

2nd July

An opportunity to speak to a teacher one to one and ask any questions you have about their upcoming school experience.

Attendance Transition

8th July

This is for an informal coffee and discussion regarding any barriers to punctuality and attendance that your child may have from Primary school. We will have our attendance team, our mental health lead and our SENDCO available for you to discuss any concerns or worries either you or your child might have. This will be for students that primary school have highlighted as needing support with attendance.

Science Event

9th July

This special event is designed for Year 6 students who will be joining us in Year 7 this September. Pupils will be identified through primary schools

Five or Fewer Event

June

Afterschool event for those students and their parents who are coming from a school with five or fewer students.

Reading Transition

June

We are offering an additional experience for students who might require some support with their reading. Primary schools will be asked to indicate who would benefit from this opportunity.

Sport Event

June

This special event is designed for Year 6 students who will be joining us in Year 7 this September. Pupils will be identified through primary schools

Academic Year 2026-27

New Starter Day

3rd September 2026

The first day for our new Year 7.  It is a full school day, and students should arrive at Walton High by 8.20am and will finish at 3.00 pm.

5 Dimensions Trust

We are a Multi-Academy Trust that serves the young people of west Milton Keynes, currently comprising of three secondary schools; The Hazeley Academy, Shenley Brook End School and Walton High and three primary schools; Priory Rise School, Emerson Valley School and Merebrook Infant School.
