MK School Tournament Champions 2022/23 – WT Year 8 Boys 6 a-side Football

We are very pleased to be able to report that at the Year 8 Boys 6 a-side football tournament held at Sir Herbert Leon Academy, both our Brooklands and Walnut Tree campuses (led by Mr Gillions and Mr Eyre respectively) did so well that they ended up playing each other in the Final.

Walnut Tree had already beaten Brooklands 2-0 in the group stage, which WT ended up winning with Brooklands in second place. WT then beat Radcliffe 2-0 in the semi final with Brooklands beating St. Paul’s on penalties. Cory saved two penalties to put them through.

In the Final, WT almost went ahead early on when Emmanuel hit the cross bar. In the end, extra time was played and Emmanuel supplied the perfect pass to Jacob who hit the ball with a right-footed shot past the Brooklands keeper.

The Brooklands team were understandably disappointed with the result, but Mr Gillions said that they all felt they had exceeded expectations and went home with their heads held high.

Mr Eyre’s team were definitely the best team there and did not concede a single goal in nine games. He gave Ben the Manager’s Player award and the Players’ Player award was spilt between Emmanuel and Jack. Emmanuel was voted Player of the Tournament by the organisers.

Understandably, Mr Eyre was very proud of his team. He said, “it may sound like a cliché, but every single one of the boys worked so hard and some of the football played was brilliant.”

It has been a great season for the Year 8 Walnut Tree team – they also won the MK Schools 11 a-side League title. Very well deserved.
