Year 10 visit to The Globe Theatre, London
To bring texts to life and support students further in their study of Literature, Year 10 students from Walnut Tree and Brooklands campuses attended an evening performance at The Globe Theatre in London to watch the play ‘Macbeth’.
The students were very excited to be offered the opportunity to explore the literary classic first-hand, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the plot as it unfolded in front of them in this hugely popular theatre. Students were able to experience the play as those living in the Elizabethan era would have been familiar with.
We arrived in London in plenty of time to see the performance and took advantage of the incredible weather to wait by the river for the performance to begin. Our seats, in the upper circle of the theatre, afforded us an amazing view of both the groundlings and the theatre overall.
We enjoyed an amazing production of Macbeth with a female monarch and male witches lending a twist to the familiar story.
The students were complimented on their behaviour by the theatre staff and I would further echo this by describing it as exemplary throughout the evening.
As this was the first trip we have run to the Globe for a number of years it was on a smaller scale but I have already made enquiries to run another trip next summer as the Year 10 students really appreciated the opportunity.
