Big Read Mural

On Wednesday 9 March, English students from years 8, 9 and 10 joined Mr Lay and Miss Crummy to create a mural to celebrate ‘World Book Day’. As part of Walton High’s ‘Big Read’ celebrations, the students were set the task of adding to the mural throughout the day.  The design was themed around the different books that our students like to read.

Our year 9s started the day by sketching the designs and adding base layers.  They then had to leave instructions for the next year group, so that the designs could be continued.  Year 10 students were “passed the baton” and swiftly added some detail and colour to the designs.  Finally, our year 8s applied the finishing touches to the designs and we were able to join the individual books together to create the final product.

The mural has been hung in Student Services, above the Library entrance. I’m sure you’ll agree that the students worked incredibly hard. The final design is a fantastic celebration of our favourite books!
